Conversation Context
We started in September with a commitment of $50,000 from +the TRCF, and have been in private conversations with additional funders since then. This has resulted in another $5000 for the general "co-project pool," as well as a number of other expressions of general interest.  Through this Roundtable, we intend to build upon in that interest, engaging potential funders and fundees together in dialogue via these "funding hackpads," and +our MaestroConference calls.

This conversation will focus on ways we might fund not only one "Sprout," but potentially the entire "co-project garden," i.e. the set of ideas that have been generated through the work to date (and perhaps others yet to emerge!). These ideas are indexed on the +Sprouts and Seeds pad. There are two separate hackpad "spaces" for the funding dialogue:
  • On the +Strategy pad, you are invited to weigh in on specific approaches for engaging with additional funders who might want to help "tend this co-project garden."
  • On the Funder Reflections pad, funders are invited to share thoughts about their work, new paradigm philanthropy, and this prototyping experiment. Roundtable participants who are not philanthropists are also invited to engage in discussions in response to their posts.

Collaborative Funding Resources

  • "As the strategic philanthropy movement has swept across the field, many grantmakers have lost their appetite for funding experimental and innovative projects. Recently, however, a number of funders have begun exploring how to deliberately reintroduce risk-taking into their processes and portfolios in search of breakthrough change."
