Welcome to the online home for the TRC 2015 Co-Project Roundtable Part Two, running from December 12 through January 16, 2015. To get oriented, please begin by reading this entire pad, which provides current "news," basic information, and a request to participants.

The "main menu" bar above, which you will see on all the pads in this online conversation space, links to specific pads for various aspects of our conversation. For easier navigation within each pad, there is a clickable table of contents in the right hand margin. More on how to use hackpad here. Here is a short link to this pad: bit.ly/trccround2.

Roundtable News! (Updated Thursday, 1/8)

The criteria conversation has progressed nicely, although there are still many of you we would like to hear from. In preparation for +the 12/29 call, co-host Jeff Aitken and I divided the criteria that had been proposed to date into four “buckets.” Small groups discussed each of them, and almost all the 20+ criteria were found to have value! Reflecting on this after the call, Leslie, Jeff and I realized that the “buckets” themselves made sense as criteria, since they captured all the thinking that had been offered by the community.

We tweaked the framing slightly, to come up with five criteria, which we would like to propose as the “final” recommendation of the TRC Community to the (as yet unformed) Co-Project Council that will make the funding decision. Before that happens, we want to give you chance to weigh in via hackpad and, if desired, on the 1/14 call. Here are the proposed criteria:

  • Each proposed co-project (aka "Sprout") might be evaluated by the Council according to the degree to which...
1. It's "the TRC's to do"
2. It supports the prototyping of "new paradigm philanthropy"
3. It builds thriving resilient community
4. It addresses social justice issues
5. It is well designed

Please consider taking some time (twenty minutes will do just fine if you’re swamped!) to weigh in on either the criteria or the funding conversations (or both!) via the Roundtable hackpads. Here are places to do so:
·         Criteria honing
·         +Strategies for additional funding

Good luck to all the “Sprout” teams in getting your proposals into Threshold by Monday morning!

Additional orientation:
  • The +Story pads provide background and context. The +"Short Story," in particular, is essential reading, especially for those who are not familiar with the co-project initiative or "the TRC space" more generally. There are also some very rich personal reflections here from +Leslie Meehan and +Michelle Holliday.  Please consider adding +your TRC story to these pads as well.
  • Please consider posting something brief about yourself on the +introductions pad. One of our intentions in this Roundtable is to weave some newcomers into the TRC community , so even if you are a long-time member, please don't assume that everyone knows you! and perhaps there's someone you would like to personally invite to join us at the Roundtable as well?
  • Additional topics can be initiated on the +What Else? pad.
  • Please use the +HeArtspace pad to share inspirational offerings and help to build/ground "the Roundtable field."

About this Roundtable

At the Canticle Farm gathering, Sunday, November 9, 2014. From left to right: Ben Roberts, Kirsten Schwind, Leslie Meehan, Magenta, Jeff Aitken, Michelle Holliday, Marissa Mommaerts, Heather Tischbein.

This Roundtable continues our prototyping of a new paradigm for philanthropy, in which conventional barriers between funders and fundees, and the power structures those barriers represent, are broken down. In their place, we offer an invitation to take ownership in the well-being of the whole. This specific initiative to develop and fund a "co-project" (i.e. a project involving three or more organizations) began in September 2014 and has included a virtual Roundtable (Part 1) and an in-person gathering.

Our primary work here is two-fold (and there is +open space for additional tracks to emerge):
  1. Continue the thinking about the +criteria by which the selection among co-project proposals might be made.
  1. Build on the interest we have received from +additional funders to collaborate in supporting "the co-project garden."

For more background and context, we request that you read the +Short Story pad. You can also find our Roundtable Part One pads here, for reference.

Schedule
The Roundtable  includes both ongoing dialogue online via these hackpads and live conversation via +MaestroConference calls.
  • Our online space (i.e these hackpads) is open from December 10-January 16th.
  • December 16, from 2-3pm Pacific / 5-6:30pm Eastern
  • Monday, 12/29, 11am-12:30pm Pacific
  • Wednesday, 1/14, 2-3:30pm Pacific

  • Review the +Short Story to get clear on the Roundtable context.
  • Identify the (often multiple) "hats" you might be wearing, preferably via the +Intros pad.
  • Engage as much or as little as you wish, and "be fully present" when you do show up.
