Description: How do we synthesize shared ideas and pull out resources, "gems" etc. to (1) share back to participants and the larger community, (2) discern possible next steps building on this process and/or (3) gain understanding on potent ways to use Hackpads to support on line D&D?

What about a set of "Story" pads?
Ben Roberts, 1/13. One of the ideas we have discussed is to create a set of "Story" pads, where any participant who wishes can post their own reflections on what happened here for them and the meaning they are making from that work. It wouldn't be too much work to create this space. Most participants probably wouldn't write anything, but if even a few chose to do so, we might accomplish some of what you are hoping for, Nancy.

My main questions around doing this are:
  1. Is it too much to add this on top of what we already have going on on hackpad, which many people are finding confusing and/or overwhelming?
  1. If we do decide to do this, what is the right timing for introducing it?

Comments on Ben's 1/13 post?

Hi @Ben Roberts and @Nancy Glock-Grueneich, I'm wondering if there is something substantively different about this question and the one I posed in +OS#4? At the very least, they seem intertwined.  At least to me!  {Steph Jo, 1/17}

Meanwhile, if you did create something like this, it would provide a means for me to bring in some of the work I've been doing on the side, such as "What's Missing" and "Critique."

  • Ben R, 1/18 Well, Steph, I just spent some time over on your OS Topic 4 pad, and it seems like related, but distinct convos to me. That said, merging in OS is up to the initiators, i.e. you and Nancy.  I think Nancy is asking about how we might do collectively what you're already DOING in your own inimitable, super-alive and totally delightful style!
  • Hi @Ben Roberts , whatever I'm doing, it's essentially a solo-activity so far. (I'm not referring to my spin-off hackpads, per se, but to the line of inquiry I've been bringing.) But I'll keep playing! I suggest that the third part of @Nancy Glock-Grueneich's question is darn near exactly the same as what I posed in OS4. But it could be that what is being highlighted are alternative approaches, and perhaps joining or merging is not in the cards?  btw, I'm reading Dialogue: A Proposal and taking some notes which are now available as part of the 2nd BOHM Dialogue call.  This particular line just jumped out at me: "
  • “What is needed is a means by which we can slow down the process of thought in order to observe it while it is actually occurring” (p. 3).
  • This is what Hackpad allows, if there is interest in using the tool for such a purpose.

{Chris Smerald, 1/18] Story pads could be interesting, especially if as a prelude to more engagement. Knowing where each is coming from is essential and sharing connections to other ideas and works deepens insight. Thinking of the community of practice ideas it could also be helpful to share what each is good at or in need of.  We are doing something similar to this in London in a few weeks, but face to face with facilitation, values and leadership focused organizations and charities. All trying to help create the new new, trying to create a community of practice along the lines of Margatret Wheatley's models http://www.margaretwheatley.com/articles/emergence.html I am enjoying seeing what emerges here. Any UK participants let me know if you want to know more about our event.

  • Hi.
  • Not to totally interrupt you, but it seemed rude not to say hi when we're obviously both in the same space!
  • yes of course what is your hope for what you get out of this?
  • ha! Great question! I fell into it, all of a sudden and deep... such a tremendously exciting opportunity to push the boundaries, push the envelope towards or even through actual transformation, for some of us, anyway, as a spark takes off....I haven't put much thought to an actual, particular outcome but have been growing into one.... or a shape of something... of course, some outcomes are more readily put into words: resources, info, skills, connections that further local projects in my backyard as well as equip and/or invite me to extend my particular skills out there in further support of this surging humanity.  I think what I'm really after is less tangible than that, it's the identification of a latent group, or of the interconnections among various latent groups, that are all already out there doing similar (but very different) things than the folks in this group. How are we already part of humanity's conscious evolution/evolution in consciousness, and how are we still trapped/stuck in our own enculturated perceptions? That's all. LOL ;-) [Sorry, long answer! I can see some of what you want to get out of this, but would like to learn more. Unfortunately now I have to sign off :-/ Catch you later, I hope! Asynchronously is fine.]
  • Thanks for that. I am very interested in emergent processes (how they develop in themselves and how to help them occur) and this approach, these questions are extremely relevant. Plus, I want to see if I can help.
  • Yes, @Chris Smerald, I saw your interaction with @Ben Roberts about "emergent processes" and "help" (here's the +link to it). I added some thoughts there, and also copied something you said to a spin-off hackpad I created from something Ben wrote during the facilitation team's practice dialogue. {Steph 1/19/15}

Nancy's Hackpad Ideas

My apologies. Nancy emailed me a Word doc last week with the request that I add it in here, and it slipped through the cracks. It's long, so I've pasted it into its own pad here: +Using Hackpads as Part of Online Dialogue, Deliberation and Collaborative Processes
