What can Plant Kit do?

Plant Kit is a parametric planting design toolkit that aggregates plant data from specific plants and analyzes landscape conditions—sun exposure, slope, path proximity, and more—to create site-sensitive, iterative, data-driven planting designs. Through Plant Kit, designers can create plant mixes that respond to topography, create custom drifts and patterns that integrate with plant mixes, create and define plant niches and micro-climates, and create planting designs that respond to unique site conditions, such as existing vegetation, shade cast by surrounding structures, and gradients of salinity or moisture

Through Plant Kit, designers can set parameters for the number of plants they want to use throughout the site, where regions these plants should be planted, select for special plant attributes, and create an infinite number of iterations.

Basic Workflow

Plant Kit uses three primary kinds of data-rich geometries:
  • Environments: The context where our plants will grow; defined by a topographic mesh
  • Planting Areas: The specific planting areas within the environment where we want to place our plants
  • Plants: A plant (species or variety) defined by a set of attributes (spread, height, color, etc)

There are other modifications you can make to the environments, planting areas, and plant lists before “drawing”, or visualizing, the planting design which are provided mostly by Land Kit pro components.

The most basic workflow, as described in our starter video below, shows you how to set up these the data rich geometries and geometric instances to produce a visualization of the planting design.
