Susanne Bleiberg-Seperson and Kevin Brabazon’s Presentation on Sustainable, Socially Inclusive and Economically Positive Social Security Systems

Earlier this year, Susanne and Kevin presented at the United Nations 57th Session of the Commission for Social Development in New York. The symposium sought to address the following Sustainable Development Goals: no poverty (goal 1), zero hunger (goal 2), good health and well-being (goal 3), and reduced inequality (goal 10). Read Susanne’s and Kevin’s recommendation on the social and economic aspects of social security. Read Susanne’s summary on her recommendations.

Kristin Bodiford’s Work Abroad

Along with many intergenerational colleagues, Kristin Bodiford has been working to strengthen intergenerational practice and share learning in order to promote health across the life course and contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.  As part of those efforts she has focused on sharing ideas through writing - co-authoring and sharing best practices from around the world. Read Kristin and her colleague Namara Arthur Araali’s piece, CoDesigning Health in Uganda

She has also been a partner in prototyping innovative approaches to co-designing locally relevant and contextual health solutions in communities, including a project funded by Pfizer through HelpAge USA in India, Tanzania, and Uganda. Learn more

Kristin worked with HelpAge International Tanzania to develop and deliver training and support for an intergenerational community building and family health mentor approach called Afya Kibaha 2025, a community-based approach to improve health across the life course in the Kibaha region. The video below features a 12-year-old family health mentor, Dennis, talking about his experience in the project (begins at 3:55, remember to turn on captions for subtitles for this portion of the video).

In addition, she and colleague Professor Adrian Kok from Dominican University School of Social Work take students every year to engage in collaborative community-based research with Health Nest Uganda to improve the lives of older people.

Our United Nations representatives help integrate intergenerational perspectives into the UN's work including the areas of aging, youth and families, which results in recommendations to its member countries. Read Kevin Brabazon’s article.
