Twist: Archiving Channels (spec)

Twist: Archiving Channels (spec)

How do I archive a channel?

The Archive Channel feature allows to hide a channel from your Channels list to access later if needed. Archiving channels helps you better organize your team’s active and inactive channels.

Note: Archiving channels does not delete the channel or remove any members from the channel.

Archived channels contain threads and comments that are read-only. This means you and members…
  • cannot start new threads or comment on threads
  • cannot invite new members
  • cannot edit or react on already posted threads or comments
  • It’s possible to view existing threads and respective comments
  • It’s possible to search threads and comments of archived channels
  • It’s possible to star/unstar or mark a thread as read/unread
  • It’s possible to view existing channel members

Archived channels can be unarchived to return to an active state. Only channel owners or team admins can unarchive a channel, not all members.

Note: It’s only possible to delete a channel when you’re the last member, a channel owner or team admin and the channel is already archived. When you leave you get prompted to leave and delete the channel as the last member.

Deleted channels and its content cannot be accessed later, they are deleted forever. Use with care.

Private channels can only be found and unarchived by channel members.
