Collaborative Notes
Michael from Tucson-neighborhood and small group conversations on resilient relationships in the face of a heat emergency
Bruce From Western Mass-evolution  moving through us as we deep listen to our feelings; recently walked with climate change group. DC leaders will not lead but will follow. Getting people involved in small conversations.
Linda -Florida bridging the generations, honor diversity of people and ages. She is a journalist and would like to interview Bruce. Naples - difficult place to get conversation going due to population that is part time and conservative.
Rick - Columbus: Synthesizing: community's on the move and communities that are more sedentary - bring them together. Working on food issues locally. Food justice and sustainability. Inequality and race.
Place is important. In Tucson, there are water issues, fire. Here, this area is directly relevant, and people more interested in change.
Tells story about he mother, who had older AC unit, didn't want to use it because of cost. How this can lead to heat stroke because too hot in the house, cannot get rid of heat... Had conversation, to help the sedentary community through connection with family - got a more efficient AC unit.

When one expresses a concern for health, it is a powerful way to get into the conversation.

Florida, Naples. Had 5 storms in one year. That would have been the year to capture everyone's attention. Then, as storms decreased, people less motivated to change anything. Nobody there wants to talk climate change - in denial.
Farther up coast, universities, more willing to believe in reality of climate change. Story about Miami wanting to secede from FL because the state capital won't do anything to help climate change
VALUES may be the most important way in, addressing values.
When tourism is major source of income, it tends to lead to climate denial, not wanting to mess things up for tourists.
