+Exploring EC1 will contribute to a wider exploration of the sort of community information systems needed in all neighbourhoods. The London Recovery programme mission Building Strong London Communities says:
By 2025, all Londoners will have access to a community hub ensuring they can volunteer, get support and build strong community networks.
Here’s earlier thinking about a Community Platform and Hub model
Helen Cammack, who developed the interests.me platform, has some excellent blog posts about what’s needed

Component of a community information system

Generally, understanding an area might involve exploring:

  • Places - locations that can be represented on geographic maps
  • People - individuals, groups, organisations - that may or may not be strongly associated with a specific location, but could be listed and searched in directories or from social media accounts
  • Activities - formal and informal events, that may be associated with a variety of places and people, and which could be organised through online calendars.
  • Connections and relationships between the above elements that can be represented in network maps.
  • Data about neighbourhood and community characteristics
  • Communication and conversations - increasingly online, using social media media
  • Stories about all of the above, which help people make sense of what’s happening
