Notes

Question for this round: what draws you to this conversation?

Jimmy - invited and worked with Ben in the past with the climate march and worked with Tom as well.
Jim Rough - knows Tom and @John Abbe well. I'm here because I have some strategies and ideas about how to facilitate the Turning and looking to meet people who are interested in transforming society towards - Dynamic Facilitation and the Wisdom Council and "Society's Breakthrough." These are things that are really important to me and I have a life commitment to making it happen.
Ben - mostly interested in impact and learning - how do we make sure we are learning from experienc
Doug - been working in process of bringing people together in a wide variety of situations and recognize the value of bringing people together for real dialog. I struggle because I started out as liberal, but I've started to become more conservative in my viewpoint and come at this differently than most people in this group.
Jim probe - I like to hear more about the transformation Doug has gone through. There sounds like some disappointment there for you? How has this transformation happened?
Doug - It was a gradual and thoughtful process that came from a number of sources including having a small business and working with CEOs of small and mid-sized companies that didn't fit what liberals have been saying about capitalism and business. After years of exploration in a variety of areas, my wife and I decided to really look at politics and came to the conclusion that we are actually much more congenial to conservative values.
Jim - I think the key is to for us to be able to transcend Left/Right in our talking. We are missing the whole-system conversation where we come together and seek what's best for all. At the Center for Wise Democracy we think we have a strategy for how to do this ... see www.WiseDemocracy.org for more information about it.

What's really true about X? Can we agree on how to determine what is true and determine to actually respond to what is true? But a main challenge is how firmly held identity gets in the way of really being able to change.
