different ideas - for hbtn project
Time available: August 1 - March 1 (7 months)
Clear with Guillaume: is a full-blown web app too big a project idea for 1 person and 6 months?
Is it feasible to manage multiple categories of users & site permissions with a Django-built site?
Okay to switch between backend technologies between projects (Wordpress REST api vs Django) and databases (MongoDB, Postgresql)?

Still to do for planning: finding mentors/point persons for help, mapping out data models, creating wireframes; more detailed outlining of MVP iterations and beyond

Learning goals I had in mind:

  1. role of cms vs web framework
  1. a framework
  1. templating
  1. front end management
  1. more familiarity with nonmysql db
  1. server management and automation, monitoring
  1. an interesting end user interface

Project ideas & selected project(s)

  1. josei beat
  1. personal website; integration with paper api
  1. resource logger
  1. media consumption logger
  1. cognitive behavioral techniques mobile app
  1. habit forming and logging app
  1. alarm app?
  1. app to automatically generate visualization/subtitles for vids

Manga db&consumption platform = lots of learning opportunities & personal motivation
Downside: not a light-weight project, not sure if it’s too bloated to do at all (or if it’s too little to do for 6 months)

Learning areas & objectives:

  1. Across the board -
  1. gain genuine experience with web dev; continue development as a fullstack software engineer by independently implementing the basic skills learned in the general track in my own projects (own these skills and be well-versed instead of barely familiar)
  1. estimate how long it will take to do each task, define boundaries for how long to attempt doing things, practice delivering, and get better at making estimations
  1. be a power person when it comes to React
  1. have an impressive end product to my name

  1. CI/CD & server management
  1. overall:
