Blueprint External — we’re recruiting!

Welcome!

About Blueprint

Blueprint is a non-profit organization aimed at bringing technologies to local nonprofit organizations that are making social change. We want to aid and be part of the group of community builders who are doing meaningful productive work. Each semester, teams of five students work with nonprofit organizations to implement technologies for efficiency and accessibility. We work on web and mobile applications for our clients to help them address and solve some of their systemic problems.

Our Mission

To make beautiful engineering accessible and useful for those who create communities and promote public welfare.

Blueprint External

Blueprint’s mission encompasses two parts — one, build technology for non-profits and two, inspire others to get involved in the technology for social good space. The external team of Blueprint was founded in 2014 to make sure we could continue the second part of our mission as our developing side grew. Through our external events, content, and thought leadership, we strive to inform students on campus and beyond about the importance of creating technology and thinking about its impact in the public sector.

Fall 2020 Changes and Plans

Historically, every semester External team would hire separate directors for different roles such as marketing, design, outreach, etc. Today we are changing and shifting the focus on creating a more cohesive and focused team, working on the same project all together. This semester we are hiring 4 External Directors to join our chosen projects and help us build the future of Blueprint 🙂

External Fall 2020 Projects

1. Chapters Expansion — Strategy that Leads to Creativity

Over the course of 6 years we have successfully established chapters across the world at University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, UCLA, UC Irvine, University of Alabama, University of Ottawa, and Carleton University. As we scale and grow, this semester we would want to work on several impactful things and focus on:

  • Creating an open source step-by-step resource guide on how to establish chapters in other universities/colleges
  • Maintain sustainable relationships with all chapters at once - establishing key workflows within chapters’ communication, create a framework to track a chapter’s progress/needs, and many other things
  • Proactively discover new opportunities to establish other chapters in Europe, Canada, and in the US

🔍 We are looking for:
  • Good communications and writing abilities
  • Strong initiative to push beyond the status quo and to think creatively and iteratively
  • Passion for social good and the desire to make an impact
  • Ability to commit to 12 hours/week (meetings, fun events, etc.)

🌿 What you will learn on a high level:

Craft
  • Ideate through complex solutions spaces and exhibit excellent judgement and intuition of impactful ideas
  • Develop innovative patterns that set a new standard for an organization (system thinking)

Creative strategy
  • Design thinking and what it’s like to work on a highly collaborative design-minded team
  • Effectively learn to shape and drive strategic plan of action, make a specific solution viable and compelling

2. Brand System Design — Refining Craft and Quality

As in fiction or any other art form, the most important element is detail. Creative craft, which is branding, is impossible without painstaking work on the details. Therefore, 90% of what we invent we do ourselves. We find simple and unexpected ideas that connect the brand with its audience and strengthen this humane connection for years to come. This is how we make creativity work. The objective for this project is to create compelling visual language that effectively communicate our goals to establish as well as uphold Blueprint’s values.
