You Were Made For This - The Long Course Description That I Wanted to Use

Hello person who wants to change their life, do what they love, travel more, and spend more time with their family!

You have done what everyone said you should do to be happy and satisfied, but you often go to bed thinking - “is this all there is to life?”

Check all that apply to you below:

  • You have a college degree (or are close to having one)
  • You have more than one college degree
  • You have a full-time job
  • Your job pays you
  • and provides medical coverage
  • and pays you when you take a vacation
  • You are married
  • You have at least one kid (or one on the way, or are planning to have one in the near future)
  • You have a house
  • You have more than one house
  • You have a car
  • Maybe two or more cars

If you selected five or more, according to the American Dream of generations past, you should be happy, content, and have no good reason to feel otherwise.

Except. That. You. Do.

You have a college degree but are not using it.

You have a job - but it is a soul sucking job that leaves you feeling unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and empty.

You have a family, but never see them. When you see them in the evening after getting home from work your kid(s) are tired and cranky and your spouse is exhausted. Not to mention, during the evening and on the weekends you are distracted by the very thought of the next work day and how badly you do not want to go.

You have a house but you only sleep there and are increasingly bothered by the mortgage (debt) and the constant need to fix and improve things.

You simply do not believe that this is all there is to life.

So, what’s next?

Well, according to the American Dream of generation’s past, here is what your future looks like:

  • Stay in your career, working for someone else, building their business, until “retirement” at anywhere between 60 and 65.
  • In the meantime, save and, if you have extra, invest your money so that it is enough to support your dream retirement.
  • Upgrade your house and cars as often as necessary to give the appearance of a happy and comfortable life.
  • Make an amount of money dictated by someone else.
  • Travel when you are allowed to travel and only after you have asked for permission to do so (and as long as it isn’t longer than 2 weeks).
  • Retire between 60 and 65 and hope and pray that you don’t get sick and die right away so that you have time to do everything you have dreamed of doing for the past 30 to 40 years (back when you were young and healthy).

How’s that sound?

Ok, how about what’s next according to the New American Dream?
