Welcome, class.
We will be using a javascript library called p5 to create our music visualizers. Please download the p5js editor from github. If you’re on a Mac, you may need to go into settings to open the application since it’s from a “unauthorized distributor.” Don’t worry — it’s completely safe.
The goal of the class is twofold.
- To introduce you to tools and resources to create visual and sonic sketches with code. I also want you to walk away from the class with a clear idea of how to expand your skills beyond the workshop, if interested in doing so.
- To shake up our understanding of the goals of programming, and explore a new mode of interacting with code. We’ll focus on intuition, inquiry, and openness as we learn to design and manipulate programs.
Please bring your laptop.
