  • Welcome to the hackpads for the "DandDTrans" community of inquiry and action. Our conversation took place via these hackpads and +a series of phone and video conference calls, during December 2014 and January 2015.  Please note that everything on these pads should be considered part of a "public space."

What follows is the welcome that was provided to participants during this engagement, which can also serve as an initial orientation for anyone who is coming in after the fact. You may also find this +Index of pads helpful in navigating.

This +Welcome pad serves as an online "home base" for the inquiry. Please read it and the +About pad to get oriented. There is a menu bar at the top of all DandDTrans hackpads just below the banner image of the travelers at the crossroads. Some main menu pads also have sub-menus to help you move among related subsidiary pads. The right hand margin of each pad (in most browsers) contains an index for quick navigation within that pad

To get back to these pads, go to hackpad.com, log in if requested (if it doesn't ask, you already are!) and look for a DandDTrans pad in the home list there, or look for the Dialogue and Deliberation "category" in the right-hand margin of that page, or use this short url to return to the Welcome pad: www.bit.ly/DandDTrans.

What's Happening Now?

The DandDTrans dialogue is now complete. Some members of +the hosting team, and a few others who expressed an interest in joining us, have moved into a harvesting phase to think together about what we have learned, what future inquiries might be, and what next steps we might be taking individually, in small groups, and as a collective. Except for the harvesting section, these hackpads are now "frozen" as a record of what has taken place, and will remain accessible to all who wish to view them.

Our conversation began here on hackpad in early December 2014. In January we held four plenary calls--+two inspired by the World Cafe process and +two based on Open Space principles. We also convened six +live conversations for smaller groups using Bohm dialogue (three were open to all participants, and three were for the hosting team plus selected invitees).

About the Main Online Conversation Spaces

Three core dialogic processes are being used in parallel for this inquiry, each of which has its own "main pad" with explanations about that process, spaces for online participation, and live call information:
  • +World Cafe lets us think together about a common set of questions.
  • +Bohm Dialogue is a collective inquiry not only into the content of what each of us say, think and feel but also into the underlying motivations, assumptions and beliefs that lead us to do so.
  • +Open Space Technology allows any participant to initiate a conversation on a subject they care about, and to host it in any manner they choose.

The main menu also includes a +Resources pad where we are compiling a wide variety of items that may be of value within this inquiry and beyond.

Brief Inquiry Overview

Our purpose is to explore the calling question ”What do we, as members of the dialogue and deliberation community of practice, have to be and do to enable our most positive transformational impact in the face of emerging global crises which fundamentally challenge our business-as-usual habits and systems?”

The intended results of our time together (though January 31) include:
  1. To engage in deep dialogue around our calling question.
  1. To connect to build community and share resources, information and strategies.
  1. To elicit inspiring, actionable possibilities and support the emergence of collaborative   teams to work together on bringing them forth in the coming year.
  1. To have the inquiry process itself be a prototype that can be iterated upon in service for systemic transformation.
