​​I believe that it will help us a lot (and I think others have expressed this as well) to define and collectively come to consensus around a set of roles that we want to play. We might start with this question: what are the different roles that are needed to host this community of inquiry and action in the way we would like it to be hosted?

​​The hosting team never embraced this level of specificity. Reflecting now, I see that we have missed the Greeter/Welcomer/Guide role, and that our participation levels might be hogher if that role had been idnetifioed and supported. Among otehr things. And it's not ovber!  Yes.  I think you are right...this has been my tension all along with respect to especially the Open Space but the other events we have held as well.   Thanks for noting it.  Many learnings to harvest from our experience together.  I look forward to that process when things slow down.

​Initial Takes on Possible Roles

​​Here are some roles I think would be valuable if we defined them and agreed on who was holding them (which might be more than one person). [Ben R., 1/2]
  • ​​Hackpad Lead Host
  • ​​Has "bottom-line responsibility" for the integrity of the hackpads. 
  • ​​Can make changes at will to all major pads, and holds the "moderator role" so that changes others propose must be approved by him or her (which begs the question of what the standard might be for such approval)
  • ​​Is kept apprised on any structural additions that are made to them.
  • ​​Greeter/Welcomer/Guide
  • ​​Contacts people who join the conversation, welcomes them, and makes sure they are oriented.
  • ​​Answers questions about the process as they show up (from existing as well as new participants)
  • ​​Live World Cafe, Bohm Dialogue, and Open Space lead hosts
  • ​​Linda and Ben L. have agreed to split the 'host' roles for the two sets of Dialogues; Linda will host the Bohm Dialogues and Ben L. will host the Deeper Dialogues.
  • ​​I'm assuming that Ben R is taking the lead hosting role for World Cafe.  We should talk about whether or not Tom and I will say something at the beginning and ending like we did before.  Is Tom A. going to take the lead role for Open Space?  
  • ​​"Journalist"/"story-teller"  Possibly Robert Corman (I also remember that Bruce Schuman volunteered to be of help with this role.  I will ask him.)
  • ​​"Inquiry News" Leader  Possibly Robert Corman 
  • ​​Has bottom line accountability for regular updates to the "Inquiry News" section of hackpad and for regular emails going out to the participant list.
