🦉Sonoma County Feminist Bird Club
Welcome to the MOST fun birding club in Sonoma County!

👥 Who are we?

Sonoma County Feminist Bird Club (Sonoma County FBC) is a friendly group of bird-nerds, committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of their identities, to learn about birds and their environments. We do this by organizing bird-centered outings all over Sonoma County, with a focus on bringing our community to areas they normally don’t have physical access to, or feel welcome in.

💥 What do we do?

Our mission is to build community around a shared interest in birds, nature, and environmental and social justice. We host a few events a year around Sonoma County to get out and bird and connect with the natural world around us. Some of the activities we might organize are bird strolls, nature sits, virtual talks, bird trivia, fundraising events, and perhaps even a surf+bird hang 😉  We will do our best to ensure our events are accessible to all.

Everyone is welcome to our events!

🌈 Why a feminist bird club?

We believe a feminist is an advocate for equality for all people, and that everyone can be a feminist. In the feminist bird club, we are all responsible for fostering a culture of inclusivity within our community.

Our principles:
  1. Our feminism focuses on addressing intersectional struggles. Our work centers the experiences of, and fights for the rights of, people who identify as Indigenous, trans, non-binary, queer, women, disabled, Black, brown, neurodiverse, or any combination thereof, and for the equity of people from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
  1. Our fight for conservation and environmental justice is intimately connected with the feminist and anti-racist movements. Our members must respect that these international struggles are central to our fight to address the current climate crises.
  1. At events, everyone must be respectful of one another. This includes being considerate of new birders, acknowledging an individual’s pronouns and rejecting any racist, sexist, ableist, classist, homophobic, sizeist or xenophobic behaviors.
