Backend Engineer (Alloy - NYC)
Alloy is looking to hire a back-end developer with strong systems administration capabilities to help our small engineering team create a great and stable product. We're a small team (5 total, 3 engineers) so we're looking for someone who loves to take initiative and can bring solid real-world experience to the table.

Who we are

Alloy is an API to collect and manage customer data from many different sources. We help companies in financial services or other regulated industries safely onboard more “good" customers without introducing any more fraud into their systems. We connect many data sources used for identity verification into a rules engine, allowing a "waterfall" of information through a series of checks across different service providers.

The current team consists of five - Tommy Nicholas (CEO), Laura Spiekerman (CRO), Charles Hearn (CTO), Scott Clark (Lead Front-end Engineer), and Jeff Csicsek (Lead Back-end Engineer). Most of the team works in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn while Laura works remotely from San Francisco. We're nice people. We're also well funded (18+ months of runway) and post-revenue so your paychecks won't bounce.

What you will do

  • Create structure where there is none - you will help us build an API that can dynamically pull from multiple data sources and display the results in a consistent and structured manner
  • Write good code
  • Some scripts (Chef for managing deployments, cron jobs, Node.js bots, etc.)
  • Help administer a fleet of AWS machines! We need to be ultra-HA so you must know your way around a production web deployment. We are looking only for people who have administered their own applications before (preferably at scale).
  • Write test cases for your code

What we are looking for

  • 4+ years of real-world experience and demonstration of:
  • Ability to work with a team on complex engineering projects
  • Familiarity with common software engineering workflow and tools
  • Mastery of:
  • Node.js/ Javascript
  • AWS and Linux server administration
  • Designing and querying PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
  • Git or a similar version control system
  • NGINX
  • Know your way around a command line
  • Designing fault-tolerant and distributed applications
  • Continuous integration and deployment
  • Some familiarity with:
  • Python (Our dashboards are written in Django)
  • Dogs (two of us have dogs that we bring to the office)
  • Chef
  • College degree in computer science is helpful, but not necessary

Benefits

  • Health and dental benefits for you and your family.
  • Flexible work hours.
  • Relocation pay - if you need to move to NYC, we'll pay to make it happen.
  • Open vacation policy, and we actually mean it. Take some time off!
  • An unlimited metro card on the house.
  • Gym membership
  • Whatever! You're the 6th person on the team, so you can help us set the agenda for what benefits we do and don't offer.

How to apply

  • Send your resume (or something that conveys resume information) to dev.jobs@alloy.co
  • Work history
  • Education history
  • What you're good at
  • What sorts of stuff you enjoy working on
  • Links to whatever you want to show off (GitHub, Twitter, HackerNews, LinkedIn, code samples, etc.)
