Letter from the Chair

By Dana Davis

April showers bring May flowers… or perhaps January, February, March atmospheric rivers bring April Super Blooms! The poor flying weather has yielded to some beautiful spring flying. I hope you have had a chance to get in the air and view the beautiful wildflowers from the above. Every time I go up, there is something new and different to see.
April has been a busy month for airplane related activities. Janice and I started the month with a Bonanzas & Cherokees to Osh formation clinic in Visalia (see photos below); the scholarship committee awarded the spring scholarship (see article below); our bright, young, Cal Poly aerospace engineering students, Zoë, Olivia, and Jordyn, organized and presented the workshop: Aerodynamics of Flight which doubled as a spring fundraiser (see article below); I took Tim (my husband), on a four airport weekend jaunt to return some airplane related snow chains (ask him about it when you see him); and I accompanied my brother to a Red Star Pilots Association (RPA) formation clinic in Porterville (RPA is a group started by warbird pilots, but they now include a lot of newer, agile aircraft like RVs and Lancairs, also, see article below). We will finish the month strong, supporting the Cal Poly Mustang Flying Club with a 99s booth, and pilots flying Cal Poly students at their April 30th Airport Day.

Saturday, April 29th will be our Southwest Section Spring Meeting. We will meet at ACI Jet to attend the virtual meeting together.
