Chairman’s Message

By Susan Steeb

Let the Countdown Begin!

Let’s start with the SLO99’s count… we are now 29 members strong. Humm, so close to 30. Funny, but I have met 3 women these past few weeks who are interested in learning to fly. How about you, meet any interesting women who might be interested in joining us? Wonder if we can cross the 30 threshold?

Registration went live for the SW Section meeting on April 6th. We had 12 register the first day and as of 4/21 we have 27. This is much higher than the usual 10%. Our goal will be 120-150 registrations.
The next 5 months will be focused on many of counts, registrations, arrivals, tours, raffle tickets, meals, etc. I am comforted that we have 10 committees leads and over 15 members engaged in planning.

We have 3 scholarships to give out in 2019.

OK, my brain is full of counts… As we work to keep track of them all, and fine tune the details of 2019, we will continue to have fun. Here are a few pictures of the reason we take flight.... millions of poppies!

Have any good counts to share at the next meeting? Bring a fun fact!

Report from the SW Section Meeting in Sacramento

By Anna Vojvoda

This year, we had 6 ladies attend the Spring Southwest Sectional Meeting in Sacramento, and 3 of our members were first time attendees. Unfortunately, the weather was IFR, so not everyone was able to fly in. We all still had a great time at the conference. The business meeting was held on Saturday at which we were updated on section finances, other chapters and additional business. We also had the opportunity to advertise for the Southwest Section Meeting that we will be hosting this coming October. We were able to garner a lot of excitement and had 12 members sign up, already. We are hoping to reach our goal of 60 planes flying in. There were also 3 workshops covering career choices, scholarships and check rides as well as a banquet Saturday night. The weekend overall was a great opportunity to network and meet women from other chapters as well as for the members of our chapter to grow closer.
