Letter from Elizabeth Weaver about her Scholarship
Here I am! My first flight in"Uzzie" as she is affectionately called. N734UZ is one of many planes in the ACI fleet, but her special job is helping me earn my PPL.
Dear Scholarship Committee and the SLO 99s,
I'm Liz Weaver! I have been an English teacher for 22 years, but now I have caught the flying bug, I don't see how anyone can stop me! I’m 29 hours into my flying, inches from soloing, and can't wait to do a cross-country.
In June I will fully shift from a career in education to one in aviation, and I am thrilled. The scholarship is a wonderful validation of my choice and a tangible support of a real dream.
Thank you so much!

Oceano Airport Celebration Report
By Jolie Lucas
Friends of Oceano Airport hosted their annual Oceano Airport Celebration: Salute to Veterans May 13 and 14. The event had been on hiatus since 2019 due to the pandemic, so it was nice to gather again as an aviation community. Friday Night Burger Fry and Dance featured Moments in Time Band. Proceeds from the burger fry went to the 99s scholarship fund.
Saturday’s airport day featured a pancake breakfast from Nipomo AYSO. The annual Veteran’s salute complete with bagpipes from AJ Verdin, presentation of the Colors by SBP CAP Cadets, welcome from Jolie Lucas. FOA Founder and remarks by San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Lynn Compton. Live music from The Amigos provided a fun atmosphere. The bratwurst lunch supported the 99s scholarship. Attendees brought items for military care packages and veteran support.
The event was open to the public, free admission and of course family friendly. Friends of Oceano Airport is a proud chapter of the California Pilots Association. Their next event is Family Movie Night on August 27th.
