Happy Holidays!
As December rolls in, I’ve been looking back at the last year. As I look over the calendar, I am reminded of a friend who says,“We can do less in a day than we think, and more in a year than we think possible.” And What A Year it has been for the SLO 99s! Here are some of the highlights:
In-person delegates represented the SLO 99s at:
Ninety-Nines International Annual Conference and Business Meeting in Charleston, SC
Spring Southwest Section Meeting in Chandler, AZ
Fall Southwest Section Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT
Awarded $4,000 in local flight training scholarships
Successfully hosted our first WINGS Over SLO: Pilot Proficiency Workshops
Offered WINGS credit to participants
Raised approximately $3,000 for local flight scholarships
Participated in Mustang Aviation Club Airport Days
Provided flights to prospective pilots
Shared the joy of flying and information about the 99s with students
Hosted Fly Outs to Harris Ranch, New Cuyama, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez, Salinas, Oceano, Santa Maria and Lompoc
Including Annual Valentine’s Day Flyout to Santa Ynez with the Ventura County 99s, and
Santa Maria to meet the Palo Alto Chapter
Provided support and volunteers for events at the Oceano Airport including Movie Night, Toys for Tots, and Salute to Veterans
Planning for the future
Created a survey and began discussion about how and where to focus our energy as we move forward
Thanked our Tower Controllers, Cal Fire, Airport Management, ACI Jet and SunWest for their support with Holiday Treats--aka Cookies to the Tower
Annual Holiday Gathering and Aviation themed Gift Swap
December will be filled with celebration and activity. Remember, there will not be a regular meeting this month, as we’re swapping it out for our Holiday Party(please note the location change below)—feel free to bring a guest. We’re also helping the Cal Poly Aviation Club providing flights to students and sharing information about flying and the 99s. Finally, we will deliver our“Cookies to the Tower”, complete with Tower Tour, and our end of year fly out will be to Paso Robles. Check out all the details, dates and times below.
The Holiday Party will be at Grace’s home in SLO, in lieu of the normal monthly meeting.
No formal attire required 😉
REMINDER: No regular monthly meeting on Dec. 7 !!! The party on Dec 9 replaces the meeting.
For me, the best part of being a SLO 99s is the women, fellow pilots and flight enthusiasts, that I have met and had the joy to interact with this year. I have learned so much and had so many opportunities for fun and growth, thanks to the 99s.
Wishing you blue skies and sunshine this December, and all the best in the New Year.
See you at the airport,
Dana
