Purpose 🎯

Podcasts form an important part of a career in media. Through this assessment you will learn how to prepare for and write a Podcast script. 

Task Description ✏️

For your Script for Podcast, you must: 
  • Include a clearly, scripted section
  • Have a strong narrative, story or argument
  • Provide evidence of an interview. 
  • NB: your assignment cannot just be a transcript of a recorded interview

Step 1: Task Understanding
To help you understand what you need to do for this task and how will be assessed, you must:
  • Read the instructions and checklist carefully
  • Read your Marking Rubric 

Step 2: Choose Guest
When selecting a guest for your podcast, consider the following: 
  • Find a guest that is going to add value to your listener’s lives 
  • Suggestions: find a guest who does things differently, has a unique approach to life, or who has overcome a challenge or difficult experience 

Step 3: Background Research
Once you have selected a subject, it is important to research your subject by:
  • Read everything you can find about them online, ie. articles, blogs, social media
  • Find out if they have won any awards, or accomplishments, etc. 
  • Read any books or articles they have writing
  • Listen to any podcasts or interviews they have already given
  • Tip: as you research, jot down notes in Cadmus

Step 4: Structure Podcast
Use this structure to help you write your Podcast script: 
  • Show introduction:
  • Welcome your listeners
  • Pitch your podcast
  • Tip: this is normally the same for each episode
  • Guest introduction:
  • Write a guest bio: what they do, where they studied/worked, where they are working now, any projects they are involved in, etc. 
  • Tip: pick elements that are most relevant to your listeners 
  • Dialogue:
  • Question 1: main question, any supporting questions, supporting evidence, data or quote
  • Segue: lead into the next question
