Project 03: Phantom Vibrations

Preface

This week were the first and second year graduate student reviews. This is an annual event where graduate students present their work to all of the Studio and Graphic Design faculty, and then the students receive feedback and counter-questions and arguments from the faculty. I mention this because one of the student’s work was about digital devices, social media and the landscape of technology. This is something I am constantly thinking about and discussing and would love for that discussion to happen within the context of this project.

Description

We will explore the effects of a growing addiction to digital devices, social media, and being hyperconnected. Our research and arguments will be presented in the form of a zine that will be distributed in the Visual Arts Center in some way. We will work as one team/studio. Each person will have a shared responsibility to contribute in some way whether it be layout, production, illustration, etc. (I will act as a creative director of sorts.) The format, materials, processes used will be decided as a group.

Questions of interest
How can we change someone’s behavior or mind with design?
Can print speak about digital? And vice versa?
How does research shape the direction of design?

Zine
A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is most commonly a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier (thanks Wikipedia).
