Planning - 2020
Goal: Increased curiosity, creativity, and passion for craft
Creativity likely stemming from mindfulness
Better reading and comprehension skills

Desired Core Values
Productivity: Feeling like I’m continually making effective use of time

Empathy: I’d like to develop passion for others endeavors and use it as an opportunity to improve myself. Don’t think that everything must be done alone and be open/vocal about your own ideas, thoughts, and feelings

Creativity: Attempt production rather than consumption. Don’t cut consumption out though! Remember to do things that don’t feel productive on the surface to boost other traits. There’s a huge benefit to passive “productivity” and both mentalities have their place. Take the extra time to ask “why” when working through problems. Always walk away from meetings, reviews, etc… with something new you’ve learned.

Concrete Goals

  1. Build your first passive income stream!

  1. Develop deeper interest in a subset of software engineering
  1. Potentially by switching to a new team (why?)
  1. A new role seems exciting on the surface. Higher pay and brand recognition seem to be the most important things to me. Other ideas like “I’ll learn more” or “I’ll talk with smarter people” feel like weaker arguments. It could force some more intelligent discussions and the ability to build more of a personal brand. Also, idea of moving feels positive. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but it should be something that I try to experience!

  1. Creativity!
  1. Speak at a tech conference
  1. Choose creativity over passive consumption
  1. Drums & music and/or programming > reading > games > TV
  1. Reading new technical and non-technical authors. Continue to use twitter as a sourcing mechanism. Has been working pretty well so far

  1. Dedication to new and interesting social connections
  1. Try dinner parties
  1. Make lists of people you want to spend time with, then build events around them
  1. Attempts to plan new activities in advance

  1. Increased wellness and mindfulness
  1. No set schedule for gym and/or meditation. Select it as something you actually enjoy doing! Find opportunities to try new things here and have easy options for your base state

Things making you uncomfortable
  • Attempt music production
  • Attempt public speaking
  • Attempt doing things with strangers. Feed your interests into conversations with people you don’t normally interact with.
