Time Permitting โ€“ Type Drill

  1. Evaluate the provided writing sample and make a note of the hierarchy of information. Feel free to edit or reorder the content, but you should use all the provided copy in all of your explorations. Please just use black and white for this exercise.
  1. Using InDesign, set up an 8.5 x 11 sized document. Design it six ways using these rules for each iteration:
  1. one typeface, one type size (Times New Roman, 14px)
  1. one typeface, one weight one type size ย (Times New Roman Bold, 14px)
  1. one typeface, one weight (Times New Roman Bold)
  1. with rules (lines) and one type size (Lines and Times New Roman 14px)
  1. two weights (regular & bold or regular & italic)
  1. no restrictions
  1. While Iโ€™d like you to use the above as a starting point, try to communicate one visual idea in each sketch. You might consider: Vertical space (leading), Horizontal spacing (tracking), Alignment (left, right, centered, justified), Indenting information, Columns (Single, multiple), Symmetrical Vs. Asymmetrical Page Composition, Lower & uppercase combinations.
  1. Export your designs as a single PDF
