Welcome to the main pad for the DandDTrans Open Space conversations!
Open Space Technology is a process that allows any participant to initiate a conversation on a subject they care about, and to host it in any manner they choose. It is traditionally done in an in-person gathering lasting anywhere from a half a day to three days or more. This adaptation of the form is a prototyping experiment to see how well it might work to hold the space open both online and via a series of live calls, for an extended period of time.

  • The conversations listed below can be discussed in ANY COMBINATION of three possible venues, as desired by the topic initiator:
  • Here on hackpad (each topic title links to a pad where discussion can take place now)
  • In a live conversation that you convene in a mode and manner of your choosing

Use the links below to find an existing conversation or initiate a new one. If you are initiating a topic, please read the following:
  • Fill in a blank template below with a title and a one sentence description.
  • Indicate if you wish for this conversation to happen here on hackpad, during an upcoming plenary call, or both.
  • Click the "OS Topic" link to go to the pad for your new topic. This is YOUR space to use as wish, e.g. offering additional framing, and hosting the conversation you want to have. This is also where you can indicate if you want to convene a live conversation at a time other than the plenary calls.

Note: this entire page is editable! Please be careful to only make new entries and not delete what is here. To edit, you must sign into hackpad, using either Facebook, Google, or an email and password you set up. +More on how to use hackpad here.

Conversations Now Open Online ("Marketplace")

+OS Topic 1: What's In Motion?
  • Initiated by: Ben Roberts on 12/1/14
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above
  • Description: help develop a database of organizations, alliances, initiatives, etc. that the group convening here is already connected to (or interested in) AND that one or more of us believes might be built upon or partnered with in our work going forward, initially via a set of hackpads with space adding items and commenting/indicate interest in those others have added as well..

  • Initiated by: Tom Atlee on 12/29/14
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above AND the Jan 13 and Jan 25 OS calls
  • Description: How can we increase the leverage - the depth and breadth of systemic impact - of our conversational methods and initiatives so that we can better catalyze the profound transformations we seek in the limited time we have available?

  • Initiated by: Laura Chasin, January 13
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above
  • Description: Pilot projects to increase voter engagement and congressperson accountability at the district level

  • Initiated by: Laura chasin on 1/6
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above
  • Note: A few of us dove in and began a conversation before Laura offered the more detailed framing that is now Topic 3 above. Since the conversation we began is not what Laura wanted to focus on, she thought it would make sense to start a fresh one, and let this one run separately. Ben R., 1/19
  • Description: Pilot projects to increase voter engagement and congressperson accountability at the district level

  • For discussion via [choose one: the pad linked to above/the Jan 13 OS call/the pad linked to above AND the Jan 13 OS call]
  • Description: Document and describe what are we doing here-and-now that is a courageous model of civic engagement leading to definite, concerted and collective action

  • Initiated by: +Ben Levi  on January 6
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above AND the Jan 13 OS call
  • Description: What  super-ordinate goal could replicate across the collective set of value systems, and act as a "guiding star" for systemic transformation?

  • Initiated by: Ben Roberts on 1/10
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above
  • Description:  Let's think together about the thoughtful responses eleven people have posted on the +Whats Possible? pad--which is arguably the richest portion of these hackpad "conversations" to date.

  • For discussion via the pad linked to above AND the Jan TBD OS call
  • Description: How do we synthesize shared ideas and pull out resources, "gems" etc. to (1) share back to participants and the larger community, (2) discern possible next steps building on this process and/or (3) gain understanding on potent ways to use Hackpads to support on line D&D?

  • Initiated by: Chris Smerald, 1/14
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above
  • Description:  It is relatively easy to talk about transformation to those  who get it. How do we engage with people who would benefit from talking about change, but are not yet doing so, but maybe on the edge of that? [Note: this is a continuation of the live discussion from the 1/13 Open Space call on the same topic, notes from which can be found here.

  • Initiated by: Linda Ellinor on January 17, 2015
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above and the Jan 25 OS call

  • Initiated by: Ben Roberts on 1/20
  • Description: I want to share a "theory of change" that inspires me, get your feedback, and think together about what we might do if we acted as if this was "true."
  • For discussion via the pad linked to above, and the 1/25 call

Once you have copied it, add the topic number and your title information. Then highlight the topic line only and select "new pad" from the menu that pops up, then press enter, then make the topic line bold. You have now created a new pad hotlinked from this one (and indexed in the right-hand margin), where you can begin posting right away. If you wish, you can also copy the header from this pad and paste it at the top of your new one so that there is a banner image, menu bar, etc., or let a host do that for you at a later time.
