Introduction
The American Journal of Transplantation is excited to present the third iteration of a new experiment in publication: the C4 Article. Inspired by the collaborative nature of Wikipedia, we present a new way to write a manuscript. We invite you to participate in this experiment and collaborate with authors throughout the transplant community(and possibly beyond!).
The C4 Article aims to engage the transplant community through Collaboration on a Crowdsourced article about the most Current, Controversial subjects in organ transplantation. The spirit of the C4 Article is to provide a platform for respectful academic dialogue. Contributors will explain major points of view, and the editorial team will strive to ensure the article is accurate and verifiable.
Editors & Editorial Process
The C4 Article is organized into a series of relevant questions or controversies highlighted to encourage comment. An editor will oversee each subtopic and will regularly review submissions for compliance with C4 Article etiquette.
In addition, lead editors will review contributions weekly for content. Similar viewpoints will be combined, and contributions will be emphasized or de-emphasized based on supporting evidence. The members of the editorial sub-committees will not be blinded, and editors will explain the revisions they make. Revised sections will be posted for authors to address new questions, challenge editorial decisions, and contribute new comments. Contributors and editors will have access to previous versions to review.
Contributions will be accepted for one month, at which time the editorial team will produce a final draft. The manuscript will go through an abbreviated review with at least one Deputy Editor and the Editor-in-Chief at AJT.
Contributors
All contributors who abide by C4 Article etiquette will be acknowledged irrespective of whether their contribution appears in the final version. C4 Article contributors and editors are expected to treat each other with a high level of respect. Personal attacks or derogatory comments will be removed.
Contributors should provide references in support of their submissions, and should not reference unpublished material. Opinion-based points of view are permitted but should be clearly identified as opinion. Contributions should respect copyright laws. Contributors discovered to be plagiarizing from other sources will be banned from contributing to the C4 Article.
Please share the document with your colleagues, staff, or anyone else who may have something to say about medication access. Here’s some wording you can use when you invite them:

If you’d like more information about the C4 project, you can visit amjtransplant.com/c4, or you can go directly to the manuscript and start contributing using this link.
I hope you’ll join me in contributing via this exciting new authorship model, one that allows anyone, regardless of institution, rank, or profession.

Add text to the main body as a new paragraph, so it will be clearly labeled with your name.
To comment upon existing text or suggest changes, add a paragraph below, or use the comment feature.
When using a reference, please add the last name and year in the text(and any further clarification if needed). At the end of the section in which a reference is cited, please include as much of the reference as possible. You should include at least the first author’s name, the title of the article, the journal title, and the year of publication. References will be formatted before the article goes to review.
For further information regarding AJT’s general publication policies, see Section 7 of the Instructions to Authors.
With your engagement, we believe the C4 Article format can evolve into a new powerful platform for academic discourse that will“blow away” conventional viewpoint articles, editorial articles, and consensus conferences in capturing the true pulse of the community.
