🎆 OC Design → OpenCollective.com New Illustrations

July 2019

0. Before we get started…

There are a couple of things you should know before we get into specific details of this project, the following sections of the OpenCollective documentation (It can get quite complex) gives  you a general picture of what is OpenCollective.com and how the design branch works (OpenCollective Design).

1.0 Design need

Open Collective communicates as a platform using very complex concepts and money-related issues. Custom illustrations have helped us to communicate those concepts to the community throughout the years, evolving alongside the platform itself.
Since the platform is being restructured, so are the illustrations. We need a fresh, new look of the visual concepts necessary to convey the Open Collective messages effectively.

Illustrations should reinforce the textual message that we currently have, and at the same time will help to encourage users around main actions on the website.

1.1 Values to transmit:

  • Transparency (main value)
  • Diversity
  • Sustainability
  • Contribution
  • Community

Key concepts to explore:
  • We would like to show scenarios with a lot of things happening
  • Play with the level of zoom of those scenarios (From the individual to the crowd)

1.2 Moodboard

We would like to see contexts with lots of things happening

When you zoom in, it’s important for people to have a face/personal characteristics

It’s desirable for the illustrations to tell a story
