Commentary

The "Book of Lamentations" is a book of the +Old Testament probably written by Jeremiah. The book tells of the lament of the people following the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian Empire in 586 BC. It contains the heartfelt distress of the people and the realisation that sin had let them to this point. At the centre of the book is a message of hope that a better would dawn. In the ministry context Lamentations provides a spring-board to talk about grief and also the grief that comes with the consequences of sin; but it also contains the glimpse of hope and restoration.
