Feedback tool
The Feedback feature offers collaborative commenting and visual markups on assets as part of the review & approvals and production tracking workflows.

Opening the Feedback tool

To start using the Feedback, select a single asset and use either of the three options:
  • Select the "Feedback" command in the asset's contextual menu;
  • Or click on the Feedback button in the PRODUCTIVITY section in the asset details panel;
  • Or press the Shift and F keyboard keys.

Adding comments

To add a new comment, go to the "NEW COMMENT" section of the Feedback panel, type in your comment in the text block and:
  • Click the ADD button or,
  • Press the Control and Enter keyboard keys.

Editing comments

Once added, comments cannot be deleted but only edited within 15 minutes. To edit a comment, select it, make any adjustments to its content and:
  • Click the SAVE button or,
  • Press the Control and Enter keyboard keys.

If you don't save the changes after editing a comment and close the Feedback tool, when you open the asset again in Feedback within the 15 minutes editing time frame, your changes will still be available to save:

Adding replies

A team member can leave multiple replies to a comment, including the comments added by the same user. To add a reply, choose a comment, type in your reply and:
  • Click the Reply button or,
  • Press the Control and Enter keyboard keys.

Editing replies

Once added, replies cannot be deleted but only edited within 15 minutes. To edit a reply, select it, make any adjustments to its content and:
  • Click the SAVE button or,
  • Press the Control and Enter keyboard keys.
If you don't save the changes after editing a reply and close the Feedback tool, when you open the asset again in Feedback within the 15 minutes editing time frame, your changes will still be available to save:

When a comment is not selected and there are multiple replies, you only see the last added reply. To see all replies:
  • Click the "Show all replies" button. This doesn't select the comment; longer replies only have snippets of their content that you can scroll down to see the full content.
  • Click the comment to select it. The interface shows the entire content of all replies.

Feedback contexts

In Feedback, apart from the asset itself, you can add additional contexts on which you can leave separate comments. For example, you can add an image as a reference or illustrate feedback remarks.
To add additional context to an asset using another image asset:
  1. Click on the vertical strip on the left of the Feedback panel to open the Contexts interface.
  1. Click the "+" button next to the MORE CONTEXT title and choose the "Add from another asset" option.
  1. Browse a single image file and click the Open button.

Select the "Remove" command in the context's contextual menu to remove a context.
IMPORTANT: When you remove a context, all comments added to it will also be deleted.

Feedback on 3d assets

In Connecter, you can interactively preview 3d assets in popular exchange formats like FBX, Obj, 3ds and others. When you open such a 3d asset in the Feedback, it loads in the interactive 3d viewer. While you can leave comments directly in this interactive context, the Feedback tool will create additional static contexts if you want to add visual markups on specific views of the 3d model.
To add an additional context from a particular state of the interactive viewer:
  1. Open the asset in the Feedback tool.
  1. Navigate the 3d model to set the desired point of view.
  1. Click on any markup tool in the Markups Widget.
  1. Click the "OK, Create Context" button in the dialogue.
  1. Click the main asset context at the panel's top, navigate the 3d model and repeat the steps to add further contexts.

To navigate multiple Feedback contexts on an asset, use either of the two methods:
  1. Click on the vertical strip on the left of the Feedback panel to open the Contexts interface.
  1. Click on a context in the Feedback panel.
or
  1. With the Feedback panel closed, click on one of the square icons in the vertical strip representing a respective context.

Feedback on videos

You can use Feedback on video assets to leave comments and visual markups on specific timestamps.
To add a timestamp on a video asset:
  1. Play the video to the time position you want to comment.
  1. Select a markup tool in the Markups Widget or open the Contexts panel, click the "+" button next to the MORE CONTEXT title and choose the "Add from current preview state" option.
  1. Add your feedback comment and markup.
  1. When ready, select the main asset context (the preview thumbnail at the top of the Context panel) and repeat the steps if you want to comment on other video positions.

Draft comments

Drafts allow you to work on comments on iterations until you finalise their content. When you add a draft comment, it's only visible to you, and the other team members don't see it. Connecter keeps the Draft comments only for the current session, so a notification will remind you to finalise or discard your recent drafts when you close Connecter.

To add a draft comment:
  1. Type in your text content in the NEW COMMENT section.
  1. Click the "+" button on the top right.
HINTS:
  • You can add as many draft comments as needed;
  • Draft comments always stay at the top of the list of all comments in the COMMENTS section.

To add a new comment from a draft:
  1. Select a draft comment.
  1. Make any adjustments or amendments to its content.
  1. Click the ADD button.

Using Connecter paths in comments

Connecter paths are links (or shortcuts) to selections of assets or folders within Connecter. You can attach them to comments and replies to make it easier for your teammates to find the assets you refer to in your feedback.

To add a Connecter path to a comment:
  1. Copy Connecter path.
  1. Click the "Add Connecter Path" icon above the text box in the NEW COMMENT section.
HINTS:
  • Ensure you have a Connecter path generated and copied to your clipboard. You'll get an error message if there's no Connecter path available;
  • You can add multiple Connecter paths to the same comment or reply.

To follow a Connecter path added to a comment or reply, click the "Navigate Connecter Path" icon on the right end of the Connecter path element:

To remove a Connecter path:
You can remove Connecter paths added in the NEW COMMENT section or from drafts and comments/replies that are still editable (within the 15 minutes time frame for edits).
To remove a Connecter path, click the "X" button on the far right of the Connecter path element:

Markups visibility

When you leave comments with many markups, your view of the Feedback context may become cluttered. Use the "Show markups" toggle button in the Markups Widget to switch between the different modes of display markups.
To see the markups only for the currently selected comment, click the "Show markups" toggle button in the Markups Widget:

Comment Statuses

Statuses allow you to mark the current state of comments. By default, all new comments have an "Open" status. The other statuses you can use are "Done", "Resolved", and "Canceled".
HINT: You can re-assign an "Open" status to comment at any time, regardless of its current status.

To change the comment's status:
  1. Click the statuses icon at the top right of the comment.
  1. Choose a new status from the dropdown.
HINT: Each status has a specific colour to make it easier to distinguish the comments visually (e.g. green for "Done", grey for "Canceled", etc.).

Filtering statuses
To filter comments by their status:
  1. Go to the statuses header at the top of the COMMENTS list.
  1. Click a status to activate it and filter the comments: this will hide all comments that don't have this status.
HINTS
  • Draft comments are always visible regardless of the current status filtering;
  • With ALL status filters active or ALL statuses not active, you get the same result: all comments will be visible.

Comments sorting

By default, comments are sorted by "Latest activity, " which puts comments with new replies or status changes on top of the list. The other sorting option is "Latest comments," which puts the most recent comments on top.
To change the sorting option:
  1. Click the sorting icon on the right in the COMMENTS header.
  1. Choose a sorting option from the dropdown.
HINT: The arrow before the option name shows you if the last comment or activity is on top of the list (the arrow pointing upwards) or on the bottom (the arrow pointing downwards).

Sorting grouping
In addition to the sorting options, comments can be grouped by Status or Commenter. You can use it to, for example, browse more conveniently all comments left by a team member.
To use the sorting grouping:
  1. Click the sorting icon on the right in the COMMENTS header.
  1. Choose a grouping option from the dropdown.
HINT: Use the grouping in combination with the sorting options for even more ways to sort comments.

Feedback in Compare Images

The Feedback is conveniently integrated with the Compare Images tool workflows.
To use Feedback on an image asset opened in Compare Images:
  1. Choose the Feedback command from the image's contextual menu.
  1. Use the Feedback to add your comments.
  1. Close the Feedback to return to the Compare Images interface.

HINTS:
  • You can use the Feedback in Compare Images in all 2, 3 and 4 images opened use cases.
  • Feedback is not available when two images are compared in Overlay mode.

Feedback in Version Control

While the Feedback feature works great when used on assets, it can provide even more benefits in combination with the Connecter's Version Control system. In Version Control, you can leave feedback on assets' versions to boost your production tracking and review & approvals workflows.

To use Feedback in Version Control:
  1. Select a versioned asset and open the Version Control Details.
  1. Select the version you want to review and click the FEEDBACK button.
  1. Wait until the version's content downloads from Version Control.
  1. Use the Feedback interface to leave your comments.
  1. When ready, close the Feedback tool to return to the Version Control Details interface.

HINTS:
  • Feedback is a separate feature from the Workflows in the Version Control system, although they both allow commenting on versions, for example. You can use both features simultaneously, depending on your practices;
  • Before opening it in Feedback, a version must be downloaded locally on your disc from the Version Control system. Depending on the size of its content and your connection speed, this may take a while;
  • To open the versioned asset in Feedback and any of its versions in Feedback are two different things. In the first case, you're leaving feedback on the asset (the particular file in this location), while in the latter case, you're adding feedback to its versions. It's perfectly OK to have individual feedback on the asset on the one hand and each of its versions on the other.

Previewing image and video assets in Feedback

By default, images and videos you open in the Feedback tool fit the available preview space, so bigger images and videos are previewed smaller than their actual size.

Double-click the middle mouse button to preview an image or video in the actual size (100%). Double-click again to fit the image or video within the available screen area.

Use the mouse scroll to zoom in or out an image or video.

Press and hold the middle mouse button and then drag to pan an image or video.
