StorymapJS is a free tool to help you tell stories on the web that highlight the locations of a series of events. You can change the visual style of your map with a few presets, or you can use Mapbox to create your own style. StoryMap JS can pull in media from a variety of sources. Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, Dailymotion, Google Maps, Wikipedia, SoundCloud, Document Cloud and more! Suggests not more than 20 slides on a route.

MapStory is a great website to use to create a map presentation accompanied with a timeline. The basics are easy to understand and it is an easy tool to get started with. One of the best parts of this tool, especially for group projects, is that it is collaborative.
