Use Custom Properties to define and add different custom metadata types to an asset.
First, create a property from the“Manage Custom Properties” UI to use Custom Properties. To open the“Manage Custom Properties” UI, go to Settings > Custom Properties:
Opening the“Manage Custom Properties” UI
There are two custom property types - shared and nonshared. The shared property type allows you to predefine multiple values members can choose from when adding the property to an asset. An“Author" property with a predefined list of authors would be a good example.
The other nonshared property type allows you to define a property where users can add custom values when using it. For example, you can create a"Due date" property users can use to choose any date when adding it to an asset.
Creating a new Shared Property
To create a new shared property, click the"SHARED" button to open the"Add new shared property" UI:
Opening the"Add new shared property" UI
To add the new property, you must give it a name, choose the property type, and add property values. There are three property types available: Short text, Number and Date:
Adding a new shared property with a"Short text" property type
Adding a new shared property with a"Number" property type
Adding a new shared property with a"Date" property type
Creating a new Non-Shared Property
To create a new nonshared property, click the“NON-SHARED" button to open the"Add new non-shared property" UI:
Opening the"Add new non-shared property" UI
In addition to the Short text, Number and Date types available for the shared property, the non-shared property has two more types: Text block and Checkbox. The first allows the users to type in larger text content, and the latter adds an"on / off" checkbox:
Non-shared property types
In contrast with the shared property, you don't define shared values when adding a non-shared property since the users will be adding custom values on the individual assets using this non-shared property.

Editing Custom Properties
Once added, you can edit a custom property by first clicking the"edit" button next to the property name in the properties list of the"Manage Custom Properties" UI.
For the shared and non-shared properties, you can edit the name and cannot change the property type. In addition, you can add new property values and change or delete already added ones for the shared properties.
To delete a property, click the"delete" button next to the property name in the list.
