Connecter - Known Issues - v1.5
last updated: December 20th, 2022

Installation

  • Couldn’t complete the installation
The installation wizard will show an error that you don’t have particular C++ redistributables installed, and couldn’t download cppregist.exe. This usually happens if you don’t have full permissions.
Solution 1: Try to run the installer in “as administrator” mode.
Solution 2: Download and install the redistributables manually from here.

  • Connecter can’t auto-update
If you’ve downloaded version 4.0.0.12922, you may not be able to receive an automatic update. Check Help -> About to see if there’s an available update that can’t be installed. You will see a message “Could not check for update”.
Solution: Download the latest version of Connecter and install it.

General

  • Select part of folder name while renaming causing a crash
This bug is caused to the framework we use for creation of the user interface and can’t be resolved completely. We did our best to minimize the impact of this bug, but it can still happen from time to time.
  • Different languagues causes problems for Google Drive paths
The localisation of the Google Drive desktop application can cause a difference in the path to the assets, which is a problem in a team environment, where everyone should access the assets through the same path.
Solution: Turn off the localisation following this guide. Use DisableLocalizedVirtualFolders 1. [Suggested by Gabriel Sellam 🍻 ]

Auto-assign Previews

  • Ignoring part of a file name isn’t possible
Currently, the options won’t allow you to batch process, for example, 3d assets ending with “suffix” (model_vray, model_corona, model_final) to an image with a partially similar name (model_preview).

Manage External Files

  • MEF isn’t working with 3ds Max versions prior to 2010
The information about the used external resources isn’t saved in the files created with very old versions of 3ds Max. That’s why we can’t show and manage it inside Connecter.
Solution: Re-save the file to a newer version.

3ds Max integration

  • Drag & drop in 3ds Max 2021 & 2022 brings UTF-8 related error message
The problem is caused by the PC’s regional settings and/or a special character in the path to the integration. Usually in the name of the Windows user.
Solution: Enable the “Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support”. You will find the setting in Region → Additional date, time & regional settings → Change date, time, or number formats → Administrative → Change system locale…
  • Drag & drop stops working after a time
The issue is mostly related to 3ds Max 2018 and appears to be random. It’s not related to the integration itself - Max stops reading the information transferred from Connecter.
Solution: Drag & drop an asset from File Explorer to some part of your 3ds Max interface. Then try to drag an asset from Connecter again.

  • 3ds Max displays an error after an update of the integration
The first drag & drop of an asset after a new update of the Connecter’s integration may show an error dialogue. Usually, the problem is in the user permissions over the 3ds Max setting files, which prevents the proper update.
Solution: Drag & drop an asset again. If the second attempt displays an error again close 3ds Max and in Connecter use Integrations -> 3ds Max Integration installer -> Reinstall. Start 3ds Max and try to drop an asset to complete the reinstall.

  • Couldn’t drop .mat files in Material Editor slot
Currently not possible, because the ME doesn’t allow drag and drop of material libraries from external applications. This option can be enabled with workaround, which causes huge performance issues.
Status: We’re currently working on a solution.

  • Merging rigged assets (or ones within a group) isn’t working properly
If the option isn’t working at all we recommend checking the Connecter Merge/Replace options in 3ds Max. Disable all Auto-ignore(skip) options. Depending on the asset the issue may continue and you will have to use the “Merge (max default)” feature. With some assets the merge is possible, but the placing of the asset isn’t working as expected.

  • Slow export of “heavy” assets
The time for adding an asset to Connecter is highly dependable on the hardware and the scene. There are suggestions that using the “Hold” command is slowing down the process, but for now, it’s essential for the current workflow.
