Collaborative Notes 30x500 June 2014

You're not required to take your notes here, but if you'd like to work together with the other people attending the bootcamp in real time, this is a great place to do it!

And don't be shy to take notes! ;)

Collaborative Note Taking

  • buying a book is an impulse buy - impulse buys can generate $ quickly - products are harder
  • Sell a prescription + relationship
  • Provide tools + workflows
  • Products are about needs, not tasks/features
  • Meet and ask (do you want to buy  my thing?)
  • Products sell themselves. Sure.
  • My example: Put app on app store and people will buy it? ha nope.
  • Ask people what they would buy (customer interviews / focus groups)
  • People lie about what they want.
  • People may not consciously know what they want - when presented with a choice, they'll act on their subconscious desire
  • People's actions speak more than what they say (revealed preferences)
  •  PDF Formula
  • Pain
  • Dream
  • Fix
  • Launch page first
  • Formula - invert the fear to opportunity - sell the outcome, not the product
  • Doesn't have to be perfect
  • Sentences deliberate and functional - no vapid marketing puke here
  • While writing: make sure your writing matches your message on pitch page
  • Subreddit? searching for keywords? find common themes?
  • found the right terminology
  • extract out common themes
  • identify and empathize with them
  • I know what they're going through and I have a solution to their problem
  • Don't sell book - sell commitment to achieve an outcome
  • Pitch serves to keep you focussed on the delivery
  • Learn the language of the audience thru extensive exposure
  • Formula: PDF
  • Pain - Identify and connect over a pain point
  • Dream - Show them you understand
  • Fix - Your product can fix it
  • Grab all advantages possible
  • Possible competitive advantages - new category, revolution, new industry, new skill? - too big for starting out
  • all these do is slow you down
