A semester of online learning makes it more challenging to get to know each other in an otherwise in-person classroom environment. Let’s take this week to get to know each other by finding commonalities in our experiences and methods of working, and share those experiences with the rest of the class.
Objectives
Practice using Glitch.com in a real-time setting with a small group of other people
Practice your HTML/CSS skills
Practice talking through coding problems in a verbal, group environment
Learn about your classmates
Assignment
First, meet in small groups and try to identify commonalities between one another. Try to think past the immediate – we’re all in Parsons CD – and see what other links you have in common.
Next, use Glitch.com to create a communal website that tells your group’s story. Your story should be unique to your group, and your website should reflect this. The story that you tell and the way in which you tell it are open-ended, but it should give the class some insight into who you are and a snapshot of what you have in common. Try to leverage the medium of the web – how can you tell a story online in ways you can’t do in print?
Schedule
10-20 minutes: Brainstorm story ideas, discuss what you have in common. Think about creating a system to visualize this and help reinforce the goals of your story/website. How can each person contribute to the story/code in a meaningful way?
40 minutes: Code your website. Work together in the same Glitch project to tell your story.
40 minutes: Website review. We’ll take turns looking at each group’s website. That group will describe their concept and how they executed it.
