Asset types and extensions
Unlike Windows Explorer or other file browsers, in Connecter, you see assets from nine predefined types commonly used across the creative industries. The available asset types are 3d models, Materials, Images, Videos, Audio, BIM, CAD, Scripts and Others. Each asset type has a comprehensive predefined file extensions list to which you can add more file formats if needed.

Managing Asset Types and Extensions

To manage Asset types and extensions, go to the Settings menu and choose "Asset Types".
NOTE: All changes in the ASSET TYPES preferences are saved for the individual user (Connecter Server workspaces) or connection (Shared workspaces) and are not synced with the other users.

Disabling asset types
By default, all asset types and file extensions they include are active, and Connecter shows them while you're browsing your asset library. There are three main asset types that you cannot disable and are always visible in Connecter: 3d files, Materials and Images. You can disable each of the remaining six asset types to completely ignore it while browsing your library (Connecter won't show you file with extensions that fall within a disabled asset type).
Click the "Use this type" button under the respective asset type label to disable an asset type, and click the APPLY CHANGES button.

Any asset type you disable will also disappear from the asset types' main filtering option in Connecter:
TIP: You can disable and enable asset types anytime without impacting your assets. See this as a global filtering setting for asset types irrelevant to your work, and you don't want to mess up your assets view while browsing the library. If you need to see a particular asset type again, enable it, and Connecter will start showing it for you instantly.

Disabling file extensions
All predefined file extensions in the respective asset type lists are enabled by default and visible while browsing assets in Connecter. Deselect the checkbox before an extension name, and click the APPLY CHANGES button to disable it. Connecter will ignore any disabled extensions and not show such files.

Adding file extensions
You can add further file extensions that are missing in the lists. To add an extension:
  1. Type the extension name in the "add extension" text field under the respective asset type. Use either ".abcde" (with a dot before the extension name) or "abcde" formats.
  1. Click the "+" button next to the text field.
  1. Click the APPLY CHANGES button.
HINT: File extensions are ordered by name, so new extensions are neither at the top nor bottom of the list but at the respective name-related position.

Removing file extensions
You cannot remove any predefined extension but only disable it if you don't want Connecter to show this particular file type. You can, however, remove extensions you added to the lists. To remove a user-added extension:
  1. Hover over it and click the "x" button that appears on the right.
  1. Click the APPLY CHANGES button.

Resetting asset types and extensions settings
To reset any changes on the asset types and extensions default settings:
  1. Go to the Settings menu and choose "Asset Types".
  1. Click the RESET TO DEFAULT button.
