Commentary

The Epistle or Letter to the Galatians in the New Testament is a letters written by the apostle Paul to the church in the Roman province of Galatia in central Anatolia (current day Turkey). It was probably Paul's first letter and many scholars feel that it was written prior to the +Jerusalem Council of +Acts 15 to openly address the issue of circumcision and justification by faith to the Christians of Galatia. Certainly the main theme running through the letter is that of justification through faith alone. In the letter, Paul explained that the Galatian Christians were not accepted by God because of their obedience to the Mosaic Law but rather through God's grace through Jesus Christ, and this is a key truth to draw from the book when using it for teaching in a ministry context.
