final exam plans
“The final exam will be held in the classroom on May 3 from 3:30 to 5:30pm”
It will be a presentation of your portfolio and your growth during the semester. I will bring snacks. The whole thing will probably take 60-90 minutes.
I will probably walk over to Landmark for a brief visit afterwards if anyone cares to join me.
As your contribution to the final exam, please put together a short(2-3 minute) presentation that addresses:
what design skills or techniques did you learn or develop in the class?
what goals do you still have for yourself, in terms of technical skills, career, or artistic progression?
what is the most important thing you learned about yourself as a“designer” in this class?
looking back on what you’ve learned, what is one tip you would give to students just starting as designers — or students in COM 202?
during your presentation, please show one or two examples of work you did during the semester. you can just put these images — the largest possible size-- on one or two slides. we will use a shared presentation for these images to avoid problems.
I will create one Google presentation and ask you to add your slides to that presentation(so we will all use one shared presentation to avoid having to switch)
Please group up so that you have at your table at least TWO students from those listed above.
Complete one critique for each person — plan to spend approx. 15 minutes on each critique.
Please display your drafts on the screens for easy discussion
Before discussing a project, talk about the designer’s intended purpose and audience for the project.
Also note any questions or concerns the designer has about his or her project.
Questions to guide your critiques:
What stands out in a positive way about this design?
What are some areas that you notice as being distracting, unfinished, or arbitrary?
Do you think this design is suited to the purpose and audience?
the rest of class time
Work on Project 4
If your partner is absent, you can work on revising your portfolio
I will give more details and guidance on the portfolio revision process as planned for next week, but to help you work on revision in the interim, you may want to review the assessment criteria for each project, as well as overall portfolio assessment criteria(what my expectations are for grading purpose):
Project 4 final draft is due on Friday 4/26 on Canvas
review expectations
Only one person from your team needs to submit Project 4
The statement for the project should be co-written using“we” and“us” etc. unless you each write your own statement and include that in the project folder.
Include a works cited page for all sources you paraphrased or quoted in the article, as well as all non-original images used or adapted.
