I.課程內容/Course description
本課程的主要目的在使研究生了解社會科學研究方法的重要概念和實踐要領，包括：研究問題產生、研究過程、研究結果分析，有能力閱讀及評論相關研究報告、撰寫研究計畫和研究報告等。
The course is designed to facilitate students with a good understanding of the research processes, including the conduct of inquiry, research operating and writing. Students are requested to read and comment on the research papers and to write research proposals as well as research reports.
II.課程目標/Course objectives
修習完本課程，學習者應能了解研究流程及研究的主要概念、研究倫理和知識創新的關係、能夠鑑賞和評論研究報告、並且能夠撰寫研究計畫和研究報告。
具體學習目標包括：
- 了解研究的流程和理論的功能
- 了解質性研究和量化研究的研究設計
- 學會操作方法：資料蒐集及資料分析
- 能研讀、分析、評論圖書資訊相關研究報告
- 能研擬及撰寫研究計畫／研究報告
After taking the course, the students are expected to acquire knowledge and skills, including:
- Understand the scientific research processes, and the role of theories.
- Understand the basic concepts of qualitative and quantitative research design.
- Operate the empirical data collection and data analysis for both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
- Read and critically comment on LIS research papers.
- Draft the research proposals and research reports.
III. 先修課程/Pre-requisite
無；但須準備研究生的基本技能：文獻檢索、參考文獻的正確格式、書目管理、筆記方法、文件編輯等能力。
None, yet the students are expected to equip some basic academic skills, such as literature retrieval, reference styles and formats, reference management tools, note taking and word processing, etc..
